When creating an account, we collect your email address (required), name (optional), username (required), and login credentials. Profile photo is optional and can be provided through camera or photo library access.

1.2 Speech & Audio Data

  • • Voice recordings you create during training exercises

  • • Session duration and speaking metrics
  • • Audio is processed in real-time to provide feedback and improve your training
  • • Recordings are automatically deleted after 24 hours unless you explicitly save them

1.4 Device & Technical Data

To maintain and improve the App, we collect:

1.5 Subscription Information

We receive limited subscription data from Apple/Google App Stores including: subscription tier (Free, Pro, Premium), subscription status (active, expired, canceled), start and renewal dates. We do NOT collect or store your payment information - all payments are processed securely by Apple or Google.

2. How We Use Your Information

3. Data Storage, Security & Retention

Security Measures

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data including encryption for data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure cloud storage with access controls, regular security audits, and data backup systems. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

Data Retention Periods

  • Account Information: Retained while your account is active
  • Voice Recordings: Processed in real-time, automatically deleted after 24 hours unless you save them
  • Saved Recordings: Retained until you delete them or close your account
  • Usage Analytics: Retained for up to 2 years for app improvement
  • Crash Logs: Retained for 90 days
  • Deleted Account Data: Removed within 30 days of account deletion

Account Deletion

You can delete your account at any time through Settings → Delete Account. Upon deletion: (1) Your profile and personal information are removed within 30 days, (2) Saved voice recordings are permanently deleted, (3) Your progress and game history are erased, (4) Some data may be retained longer for legal compliance, security, or dispute resolution purposes.

Important: We do NOT sell your voice data to advertisers or third parties. We do NOT share your recordings with anyone without your explicit consent.

4. Device Permissions

Verbal Edge requests the following device permissions:

📷 Camera Access

Purpose: Take profile pictures

How It's Used: When you tap "Edit Profile" and choose to take a new photo, the camera opens to capture an image. This photo is uploaded to your profile and visible to other users.

Optional: Yes, you can use the app without granting camera access

🖼️ Photo Library Access

Purpose: Select profile pictures from your device

How It's Used: When you tap "Edit Profile" and choose "Upload Photo," you can select an image from your library. For example, you might choose a favorite photo to personalize your account. The selected image is uploaded to your profile.

Optional: Yes, you can use the app without selecting photos

🎤 Microphone Access

Purpose: Record your speech during training exercises

How It's Used: When playing games like Letter Blitz or Category Blitz, the app calculate scores.

Required: Yes, microphone access is required for core app functionality

🗣️ Speech Recognition

Purpose: Transcribe and analyze your speech for training feedback

How It's Used: In games like Category Dash, the app transcribes your words in real-time to verify correct answers and calculate scores. For example, if the category is "fruits" and you say "apple," the system recognizes and validates your answer. This helps you improve communication skills through instant feedback.

Required: Yes, speech recognition is required for core app functionality

5. Children's Privacy

Verbal Edge is not intended for children under 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Users between 13 and 18 years old must have permission from a parent or legal guardian before using the App. If we discover that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.

6. Third-Party Services

We use carefully selected third-party services to support app functionality. These services may collect limited data as necessary to operate:

Supabase: Backend database and authentication

RevenueCat: Subscription management and analytics

Expo: App development and update platform

Apple/Google Services: Payment processing, push notifications, crash reporting

Important: These services do NOT have access to your voice recordings. Speech data is processed locally on your device or in our secure servers only.

7. Subscription & Payment Information

Payment Processing

  • • All payments are processed securely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store)
  • • We do NOT collect, store, or have access to your credit card, debit card, or payment information
  • • Apple/Google provides us with limited subscription status information only

What We Receive

From Apple/Google and RevenueCat, we receive:

  • • Subscription tier (Free, Pro, Premium)
  • • Subscription status (active, expired, canceled)
  • • Start date and renewal date
  • • Anonymous transaction identifiers

Subscription Management

To manage your subscription, cancel auto-renewal, or request a refund, please visit your Apple ID Account Settings (iOS) or Google Play Account (Android). We cannot process refunds or subscription changes directly - these are handled by Apple/Google according to their policies.

8. Apple Services Integration

App Store Services

  • Subscription Processing: All subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store
  • Payment Handling: Apple securely handles all payment transactions
  • Status Updates: We receive subscription status updates from Apple to provide appropriate app access
  • App Analytics: "Apple may collect anonymous usage data if you have enabled Share iPhone Analytics" in iOS settings
